Far from the dead un-colored Autumn weather I experienced living in Texas, I adore the Fall seasons in RVA.

It seems as if Fall already made its presence mid August.  Are you on the “this is going to be the worst/apocalyptic/horrific winter ever” bandwagon like so many are (including myself)?  Time will only tell, but for now let’s bask in the yellows, reds, and oranges, and take advantage of the best season Richmond has to offer.

Here’s a sweet list of foodie-inspired happenings that you’ll probably not to want to miss out on…

10th Annual Capital Ale House Oktoberfest
Where: Capital Ale House – Downtown
When: Saturday, October 6th 12-10pm and Sunday, October 7th
Why: So what if this Oktoberfest is flooded with VCU kids and bros.  It’s a par-tay downtown boasting with polka jams, brats, Bavarian pretzels, and lederhosen for miles.

Where: Libby Hill Park in Church Hill
When: Saturday, October 6th 12-7pm
Why: With the tagline “Where food fun and fiddling all begin with an F…” this event should not be missed. Get your grub on with regional barbeque flavors (Memphis, Carolina, Texas, etc)  and pork  inspired fare including bacon covered doughnuts.  Then get your jam on with bands like the Long Arms, River City Band, Chrome Daddy Disco, and Andy Vaughan and The Driveline.
An extra bonus?  A Miss Hot Sauce contest.

Carytown Food & Wine Festival “A Taste of Carytown”
Where: Cary Court in Carytown
When: Sunday, October 7th 12-6
Why: For $15 ($20 at the gate), get your ticket to sample local wines (from over 10 VA wineries), grub on Carytown food (Weezies, Ginger Thai Taste, Mezzanine, etc),  and bring home a souvenir glass.

44th Annual Oktoberfest
Where: Showplace Exhibition Center in Mechanicsville
When: Friday, October 26th & Saturday, October 27th
Why: With nearly 5,000 people traveling to this largest Oktoberfest in Virginia, you can’t turn down beer, brats, and a whole lot of people watching.

*UPDATE* Graze on Grace
Where: Grace Street between 4th & 7th
When: Sunday, October 28th 12-5 pm
Why: Over 25 local restaurants that serve farm to table grub will be serving up samples for $3.  Local farms and vendors will be showcasing produce, meats, cheese, wine, and beer… do I need to continue?  With this being the first Graze on Grace, you won’t want to miss out so you can reminisce when you brag to your friends “oh yeah, I went to the first one they had…”

13th Annual Brunswick Stew Festival
Where: 17th Street Farmers’ Market
When: Saturday, November 3rd 11am-4pm and Sunday, November 4th 12-5pm
Why: Nothing says Fall is here and winter is coming like a bowl of Brunswick stew.  So come, eat, and celebrate in Brunswick stew glory.

    I love Fall also! But so sad to see the food truck courts winding down cause of the nippy weather. I’m gonna have to figure out other ways to get my Boka tako fix……
